Welcome!
Welcome! I'm Lori Seaborg, wife to Tim and mama to four children, two boys and two girls, ages 4, 7, 10 and 12. We live on the Florida-Alabama (FloraBama!) Gulf Coast and homeschool our children. Why do we homeschool them? Not necessarily to make them smarter! :) We just like having them around, and we all enjoy learning together. We weren't always so sure that we'd like this lifestyle....
Our guinea pigs, er...children, have done private schooling, public schooling, blended school (a mix of public school and homeschool), and homeschooling. Since the job was on my shoulders while he worked at an outside-of-the-home job, Tim let me decide how to educate the children. It took me a few years, but finally, I figured out what I truly want to do: Homeschooling. (I should add that there are days when I have to choose to do it, because I do not always want to do this job!) There was a time that I was adamantly against homeschooling our children. It was fine for someone else, but I said, "I would never do that." I had a good reason: I was homeschooled one year in high school, hated it and didn't feel like I learned a thing. But now that I look back, it's not entirely homeschooling that made the year hard, but life's circumstances. I was moved thousands of miles away from my friends without warning (family medical reasons) and plunked down in front of boring worksheets to serve as my 'school.' Now that I'm settled into homeschooling, and have a few years of experience behind us, I can say without hesitation that although you may not choose to homeschool, if you want to do it, you can. It really can be a lot of fun for everyone involved. Next time I blog, I will share with you a few of my tips on homeschooling - how to do it, and, especially, how to enjoy it. Thank you for visiting! ------------------------- Lori Seaborg http://loriseaborg.com |
