  Class or Trash?
I don't get it. I don't understand why women decide that they'd much rather be "sexy" and "trashy" than classy - especially in Hollywood. Oh, I know it's supposed to "sell" better...but in my book selling your soul is never worth the price.

I have two girls. They are looking for young role models. They keep thinking they find one only to have their illusions and expectations dashed. Let's take a former Disney star for example. She is a darling girl. Had a darling show on Disney and was in some great family films not to mention had some great danceable pop hits come out that were clean to listen to. Imagine my surprise when I recently viewed a new video from her on Youtube" that is pretty down and dirty! I was shocked and dismayed. Not sure what happened. I'm guessing she thinks it's time to "grow up." But why does growing up always entail sex?

On the other hand we have a former American Idol. Very classy young woman. So far, she has not used sex to sell her image or her albums. She doesn't have to. Her voice and her reputation stand on their own.

I'm just wondering in 20 years who will have the stronger legacy? The one who chose class or trash? And who will feel better as they look back over their career and see the path they chose? When it's time to have children, who won't be ashamed to have their kids see all of their photos, videos, and movies?

Somehow I hope that I can teach my girls how to be a class act. Everyone wants attention sometimes and everyone desires to reach that next goal or level in life. But compromising values, integrity, and character are never the way to do it.

People Need to Believe In Dreams Again
I was watching the movie "Rudy" the other day. I'd seen it before and was only catching the end of it on television. But as I was watching it, tears struck my eyes. I've always loved movies like that - those like 'The Rookie" which show people achieving lifelong dreams.

We are living in a time period where things are tough. People are losing their jobs. They are getting laid off, pay cuts, forced vacation time, minimizing insurance benefits or any benefits at all and people are discouraged, depressed, and skeptical. I can feel it all around me.

It doesn't really matter what is going on in the world as much as it matters what is going on in our hearts. This could be a time where people have the motivation and the courage to pursue things they never thought they would pursue. It could be that people could get out there and help each other. Those who are a little better off could help those who are really struggling. We could help each other find camaraderie of spirit again. Most of all, we could teach one another what it feels like to dream again.

People need to believe in dreams again. For without a dream, part of the heart, soul, and spirit of a person is lost forever. It's like you are a walking shell just putting in your time here on earth but with no real focus or vision.

These tough economic times could be just what we need to rediscover what it means to dream. It could be the very medicine we need to feel inspired, renewed, and on fire for life again.

If you have a dream and it seems as if the world is against you, don't let it go. Hold on to that dream and let it fuel you and propel you forward. If you have set your dreams to the wayside a long time ago, maybe it's time to pick them up again and rediscover who you are and what is important to you.

Everyone needs a dream - maybe it's time we all start believing in the possibility of them again.
