Time Strategies to Organize and Simplify for Spring

by Molly Gold, founder of GO MOM !NC

Moms consistently state that time is the one thing they never have enough of; no matter how hard they try. This spring, follow these steps to clear out the clutter and get organized.

  • Manage the Month of May – Start with what’s in front of you! From graduation to sports tournaments, recitals and standardized tests, May is full of events that can’t be missed. Model how to manage time and plan for projects. Take your planner with you everywhere. You’ll stay on task and have important contact information at your fingertips to manage any schedule changes. Keep stress in check by stocking proper supplies for year end projects and show your kids how to break big projects into small chunks leading up to the due date. Stay on top of after school activities by restocking your car nightly with necessary items, such as sports equipment for players and entertainment for siblings in tow. Encourage your kids to use different bags for each activity and charge them with reloading the bag with fresh supplies each time they empty the dirty ones.
  • Organize Your Mind – Order in the court! Sadly, Moms find themselves in a terrible cycle of being both judge and jury, striving for perfectionism both at home and through their children, only to find growing discontent and lack of confidence in themselves. We challenge you to break that cycle today by making a promise to be true to yourself and family. Make a list of values to guide your choices and honor your parenting style. Post this list in a visible place in your bedroom or bathroom so you review your values every day. Be confident as you lead your life as the mother you choose to be versus a societal definition of perfectionism that cannot be achieved. You’ll be amazed at how this powerful promise with organize your actions and clear your mind.
  • Make Mother’s Day Marvelous – Take advantage of the spotlight! With Mother’s Day on the horizon, you deserve to be pampered and appreciated by those who love you most. This year, consider doing something for yourself to make a big impact in the one area you struggle with the most. Bring in a professional service to help you with your greatest challenge. Not the best with laundry? Consider using a service periodically to keep you on top of the pile. Can’t find your way around the kitchen? Bring in a cooking consultant to get you chopping again. Not the best at managing your desk? A professional organizer will teach you how to sort and file in no time at all. Enlisting a partner to tackle your weakest link is not only smart but a tremendous stress reducer. You’ll learn new strategies to stay ahead of the curve and you’ll be liberated from the nagging voice inside you that always knew there was a better way to get through the day.
