Turkey Breast with Cloves and Warm Fruit Chutney

By Dawn Hall, author of the Busy People’s Cookbook Series

If you like spiced ham, you will love this turkey.

1 (4 1/2-pound) fully cooked deli-style turkey breast, mesquite flavored*
1/3 of a (1 1/2-ounce) container whole cloves
1 (16-ounce) can whole berry cranberry sauce
1 (14.5-ounce) can red tart cherries in water, drained
1 (30-ounce) can pineapple tidbits, drained
1 1/2 teaspoons ground allspice

  • Spray a large oblong slow cooker with nonfat cooking spray.
  • Press cloves about 1 inch apart covering the entire turkey breast, except the bottom, or if using half of a larger breast, don’t put cloves on the cut side.
  • Place clove-studded turkey breast in the slow cooker.
  • In a large bowl stir together cranberry sauce, cherries, pineapple, and allspice with a spatula until well mixed.
  • With your hands press the fruit mixture onto the turkey so that it is completely covered. Some fruit will fall off and that’s okay.
  • Cover and cook on low for 5 1/2 hours.
  • Remove the turkey with tongs and place in either a 9 x 13-inch glass casserole or a platter.Spoon the fruit chutney out with a slotted spoon and place around the turkey.
  • Pour the juice (au jus) into a gravy boat or bowl with a ladle.
  • Let the turkey breast sit for a few minutes before serving. For a dramatic and pretty serving presentation, serve with the cloves still in the turkey. However, please inform guests to remove before eating.
  • If desired, decorate the serving platter with a sprig of fresh rosemary on each of the corners of the platter for decoration.

*Note: We purchased ours from Sam’s Club. We used a 9-pound breast and cut it in half. Placing the cut side of the turkey down in the slow cooker. We saved the remaining half for later.
