Precious Moms Devotional Esther

Out of the Comfort Zone
Esther 4:13 – 16
Mordecai sent this reply to Esther: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”
Mom’s Reflection:
God placed Esther in a position of honor; a long way from her humble beginnings as a young Jewish girl. She held the title of queen, living in a Persian palace. Little did she know that God had an even bigger plan for her life. After a decree to destroy the Jews was unwittingly signed by the king, she had to step out of her comfort zone and into unknown territory. One thing was for sure, she knew she must depend on God. As she began her walk of faith, she asked for her people to fast and pray. She didn’t rely on the comfort of her position, but rather the comfort of God’s sovereignty and strength.
It would be nice if we could live in a comfy, safe situation with all of our ducks neatly in a row. Unfortunately that’s not always how life plays out. A mom’s life is never completely comfortable. We are always being stretched in ways we never could have imagined; it may be a strong-willed child, or a child who needs our constant attention, or it could be a child with an illness or disability. Simply put, the day-in, day-out activities of a mom can take us out of our comfort zone. Yet as moms we can learn a lesson from Esther as she sought God’s help and asked other people to pray, then she made a wise plan of action and courageously took one step forward.
We may not have all the solutions in sight, but we can prayerfully seek His guidance, strength and courage one day at a time. Just as God placed Esther in her position as queen for a plan and a purpose, so God has a plan and a purpose for us as moms. We may not feel like a queen all the time, but we can know God has a unique job for us to do as the mother of our children. Sometimes we are stretched, sometimes we may be comfortable, but we can always know that God is our rock and refuge and a very present help in time of need.
Mom’s Prayer:
Sovereign Lord, praise You that You have plans that are far bigger than I can see. I trust You and know that You are working in ways that are beyond me. Thank You that no matter what I go through, You are with me. No matter where I am, You are there. In the nice, comfy times and in the stretching, scary times I know You will never leave me. Please grant me strength and wisdom for the path You want me to take. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
