Word of Mom- Thoughtful ideas from Precious Moms:
I like buying practical gifts that people use on a daily basis. It covers the cost for them and us when we buy gifts early. We buy stuff throughout the year when they go on sale or have specials where you purchase a few of the same items for less than they would be normally. Everybody always looks forward to receiving one of our goody bags year after year! You can fill some bags with gifts like hand sanitizers, lotions, lip glosses, nice underwear, $5 gift cards for renting movies or favorite juice & coffee shops etc. – Isabel G.
At Christmas, I like to put together gift baskets. Often, I am able to buy a quantity of several items at Costco or Sam's Club. Some examples of the items I may include are: crackers, cheese spread, a decorative spreader, a holiday trivet, a small jar of fancy mustard, flavored popcorn, nuts, sausage, holiday candy, and/or special cookies. For the final touch, I wrap the basket with cellophane paper & tie with curling ribbon or decorative yarn. I prefer these "homemade" baskets to the ones that can be ordered from a catalog or specialty store because they are more economical and I am able to decide exactly what to include. Recipients tell me that they enjoy the baskets - some say it comes in handy for a meal during the busy Christmas season while others sample a little bit at a time to make it last longer. - Laurie D.
The things I’m looking out for this Christmas are Precious Moments gifts, Indian objects and embroidery materials. – Pam W.
I think a nativity set, including Mary and Joseph, would make a really special gift. Anything from Precious Moments would be special enough to display on a mantle every Christmas!- Amanda
Since so many people are experiencing financial trouble, perhaps gifts of necessities would be a better choice this year. For an elderly person, a gift basket of toiletries such as deodorant, soap, tooth products, face cream, etc, would help take the bite out of their budget. For a working mother with young children, a gift certificate to an inexpensive restaurant (eat in or take out) would help ease her schedule and allow for a little extra fun with her family. I also like to make little personalized gifts that are embroidered or crocheted, such as bookmarks, scarves, little purses, etc.- Mary M.
This Christmas is a sad and happy one for my family. This will be our first Christmas without my brother, who died in March of this year as a result from war injuries he obtained in Iraq. It will also be our first Christmas with my son Ryder Lee, who I named "Lee" after my brother. We had a hard time trying to decide the right gift for my mother. She lost her son but gained a grandson and it makes it difficult knowing how hard this Christmas will be for her, especially since she lives so far away that she will not get to spend the holidays with either my children or my brother's little girl. We decided to make her a scrapbook calendar that celebrates her as a grandmother and on each month has a picture of either one of my two children or my brother's little girl. That way each month she has a happy memory to think of as she looks at the pictures of her happy grandchildren. We also have a Precious Moments ornament called the "Purr-fect Grandma" that had belonged to my husband’s mother before she passed away years ago. We plan to send that and the calendar to my mother this Christmas.- Kelly L.
Personalized jewelry has always been a must have on my list, it goes to show that the giver of the gift put a lot of thought into it and it makes it more of a personal gift than, here I got you this gift card!- Kristinia
I
have been writing my life story w/pictures of my childhood and included my parents' life story as well to give to each of my 6 children and families for Christmas. Each one of my children, grandchildren have been keeping a calendar to write all their things they did during the year(plus their thoughts and pictures, too) and will put into a journal book to give out for Christmas as well. These are the BEST gifts ANYONE could receive and are NOT bought from the store! An Ancestor photo book, along with captions of who each one is and how they are related, is also a remembrance to carry on and pass on!- Donna S.
Well, being a single mom and SANTA, I have decided this year to cut back and make Christmas a little more inspirational. I have 3 topics to gather ideas for.
1. Purposeful - I will find a gift that has a purpose for my kids' needs. (Robe, Books, etc.)
2. Meaningful - Something they adore or that they continuously talk about. (Music Box, Collage of photos-fishing, boating, riding horses, etc.)
3. Fun - Anything they have an interest in.
This will give us a chance to enjoy what we have and receive from our loved ones. - Danielle
