Got A Precious Collection? Here’s The Way To Display

Whether you collect teapots, birdhouses or Precious Moments figurines, your collection is certainly a reflection of your personality and an expression of your creativity.  That’s why displaying your collection is very much a personal statement.  And while there is really no right or wrong way to display your collectibles, a collection will look best if it is organized well and highlighted in the right way.  As your collection continues to grow, determining the best way to display it can be an overwhelming task – here are a few tips and hints to make it more fun and less intimidating:

  1. Odd or Even?  The decorating rule of thumb is to display items in odd-numbered groups.  This setting allows the eye to “dance” from item to item without pairing them up into even sets.  Try groups of 3 rather than 4 and 7 rather than 8.  For larger groupings consider a pyramid-style display with more key items in the center.

  2. Theme, Style or Color – If you’re stumped about how to choose items from your large collection to display, this is a great classification system to use.  A collection will appear more cohesive by choosing to display by one characteristic.  For example, perhaps you own many of the Christmas-themed figurines from Precious Moments.  The holidays are a great time to display your collection together to tie into the theme in the rest of your house.  Or, if you own several sets of vintage china, try displaying the white set together on your sideboard for maximum impact.

  3. Protect from the elements - Displaying your collection is a great way to showcase your treasures, but you also want to be sure to keep them safe and clean.  A curio cabinet is a great way to showcase fragile items and keep them dust free.  If space is an issue, however, choose a wall-mounted case that encloses the shelves --this will also keep dust to a minimum.  When deciding where to display your collectibles, it’s also a good idea to keep in mind who your visitors are and the traffic patterns in your house to avoid little hands and little mishaps!
